Pervious concrete pavement is a unique and effective way to address important environmental issues and support green, sustainable growth. By capturing storm water and allowing it to seep into the ground, porous concrete is instrumental in recharging groundwater, reducing storm water runoff, and meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) storm water regulations. In fact, the use of pervious concrete is among the Best Management Practices (BMPs) recommended by the EPA—and by other agencies and geotechnical engineers across the country—for the management of storm water runoff on a regional and local basis.
Southco has experience in cleaning and maintaining pervious concrete surfaces. Vacuum sweeping on a regular basis removes debris from the surface of the pavements. For best results over a large area, a regenerative vacuum sweeper should be used. Other cleaning options may include power blowing and pressure washing.
Research has shown that using any of these methods to clean a clogged pervious concrete pavement can restore 80% to 90% of the original permeability in some cases. We recommend that paved areas be vacuum swept to keep the area free of debris and sand. A regularly-scheduled sweeping program for your parking areas and entrances will not only present an attractive, clean appearance for your property, it will also prolong the life of your pavement and striping. At Southco we provide a professional, uniformed team, and equipment that is best suited for your particular requirements. Southco will recommend a schedule best suited to the property’s needs.
